Navigating a loved one walking through addiction and mental health is terrifying. No amount of comforting words can take away the anxiety and pain you might feel along this journey. The only option is taking one step forward at a time. I will say it is possible to go from the deepest pain and instability to living a full beautiful life!  It has been my personal experience, and I have seen it in countless others. Recovery is never linear, but it should be moving forward. And having a good team in place is crucial.

The issue we tend to find is many times there is so much confusion and chaos that just managing someone’s care is a full time job. It seems like little on the ground progress is happening and it becomes about just trying to stay afloat and avoid an all-out crisis. Our job is never to try and cut you out of the care your loved one is receiving, but rather it is to ensure everyone, and every resource is being utilized to its full potential, and everyone can focus on their skillset. This changes chaotic care into a beautiful team. Everyone is on the same page, and the focus is constantly on the client moving forward. Fragmentation is the enemy of healing. Our mission is cohesiveness.

 We also offer more hands on coaching with the client when necessary to help bridge the gap between clinical work and everyday life. When someone is stuck in trauma and addiction and just trying to cope for a lot or all of their lives, it is an impossible expectation to assume they will suddenly know how to live productively. Unfortunately, this can lead to people being labeled as lazy or unmotivated but in makes complete sense in this context. So often, the person just needs someone to break down simple steps to move forward. Someone to guide and be there with them as they step into life. And someone to introduce accountability. Not in a judgmental way but with a deep understanding that people want to succeed, they want to thrive, and needing help is not shameful.

We sometimes see family members try to take on this task, but it rarely works well. The family is juggling enough by trying to maintain proper boundaries while standing with their loved one through thick and thin, not to mention still showing up for everything else in life.
